Alaska Contractor Bonds

Alaska requires contractors of multiple classifications to obtain a surety bond prior to becoming licensed. These bonds ensure that principals (contractors) adhere to all applicable laws and regulations pertaining to their specific industry. They also protect the obligee (government entity) from any claims filed because of negligent work or damage caused by the contractor.

Handyman Bond Requirement

If you are a handyman working on projects with an aggregate contract price of $10,000 or less, Alaska requires you obtain a $5,000 contractor bond. The price for this bond starts at $100, but may vary based on a review of credit information.

Mechanical or Specialty Contractor Bond Requirement

Mechanical or specialty contractors in the state of Alaska must post a $10,000 contractor bond. This bond requires underwriting consideration. Premiums will vary as they depend heavily on a review of the applicant's credit. The premium for this $10,000 contractor bond starts at $150.
